Puerto Rico: builds plant that will use plastic and rubber

A plant to produce synthetic fuels, such as diesel and gasoline for airplanes, using plastic and pneumatic derivatives, began construction in Peñuelas (Puerto Rico), reported the Puerto Rico Construction & Infrastructure Cluster (PRCIC).

The project, described as innovative, would use a technology developed by the company Re-Synth International.

Re-Synth International's new facility will be located on a 10-strand industrial grade site with a 40,000 square foot main structure and production areas with long- and short-term expansion capabilities.

Once in operation, the plant would produce up to 35 million gallons of synthetic fuel annually using an efficient and completely clean thermo-chemical process with no environmental impact.

"We are talking about one of the most innovative projects in the world. Solid materials derived from petroleum (raw material derived from plastics, gums and others) will be converted into synthetic fuel, which is a very outstanding scientific, environmental and, above all, economic innovation, "explained Arnaldo Soto, son, president emeritus of PRCIC.

The executive said: "Puerto Rico will present this new way of generating synthetic fuels to the world, investors and large conglomerates of fuels. This will attract great business opportunities to create hundreds of companies that will directly and indirectly benefit from Re-Synth International's technology here on the island. "
