Oxo-biodegradable d2w technology

The d2w technology allows the plastic to have a controlled life (between 6 months and 5 years), that is, that over time is oxo-biodegrade and return to nature without contaminating the environment. Otherwise it is the traditional plastic, which can take up to 500 years to disappear from our planet.

In the plastic production process, the additive is combined with the raw material by 1% for both polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene, as well as for the production of flexible, rigid and semi-rigid products. Its use does not require any special production process or modification of existing equipment.

Products made with d2w additives may be in direct contact with food (according to the FDA) and being discarded and complying with their oxo-biodegradation cycle do not cause any damage to the environment. The use of d2w technology does not alter the properties of the plastic product during its useful life, this includes mechanical, optical and printing properties, seal, waterproofing, barrier, among others.

Thanks to this technology it is now possible to manufacture plastic products in their vast majority degradable with a very small additional cost.

How does d2w technology work?

Oxo-biodegradation consists of the degradation identified as resulting from oxidative phenomena and cell mediation, both simultaneous and successive. Products made from polyolefins produced with d2w additive will degrade abiotically in the presence of oxygen.

The ability of d2w products to meet the requirements of biotic testing has been demonstrated by the loss of molecular weight achieved after abiotic thermal degradation, resulting in final biodegradation of the material into CO2, water, mineral salts and biomass. The additive contains no heavy metals.

If the polymer products are properly manufactured with d2w, the additive will not cause any undesirable effect on the strength and other functional characteristics of the product during its programmed shelf life. In case of being sent to landfills, oxo-biodegradable d2w plastics will degrade under aerobic conditions. under anaerobic conditions they become inert and do not emit methane.

Oxo-biodegradable d2w plastics can be recycled together with other petroleum-based plastics.
